Internships Within REACH

For more than six years, the Capital Area REACH Program has organized summer work opportunities for its students by forming meaningful partnerships with employers. We work hard to ensure that the work experience is beneficial for both the student and the employer.

Work experience is crucial because it exposes students to a variety of career options, helps boost their confidence, and lets them build a network of references. Because of the students’ busy school year, summer work experience is a key opportunity to introduce them to the working world. Through our internship program, REACH students apply the skills they’ve learned in school to real-world scenarios. When students can make a successful transition from school to work, it’s good for all of us—our society, our economy, our workplaces and, most of all, our youth.

By offering summer internships, REACH employers have the opportunity to create knowledgeable workers; reduce time-consuming recruiting, hiring, and training efforts; and help enhance student work ethic. They can also provide valuable lessons such as pride in a job well done, punctuality, dependability, and honesty. And, best of all, company employees who work with students gain new leadership and interpersonal skills and report higher satisfaction with their employer.

The Capital Area REACH Summer Internship Program requires youth to participate in intensive workshops prior to summer job placement. These workshops are presented by Destination ImagiNation and allow the students to enter employment with appropriate expectations, attitudes, and work maturity skills.
